I think a lot of people might look at my page and think we’ve got this FND thing figured out… but the truth is, we’re still learning as it comes. We got through summer and all the challenges that came with that — heat, travelling, busy days, changes in routine — and somehow found our way through it. But autumn and winter feel like a completely new chapter. I’ve genuinely been racking my brains trying to work out how to keep this season magical and happy for her, while also knowing so much more now about what can trigger her symptoms. When all of this first started, we didn’t even realise things like car headlights in the dark could be a trigger 😂 Now we’re much more aware of the noise, lights, crowds, cold, tiredness and overstimulation that can make things harder. And that’s where I’m struggling with the balance. Because yes, we know there are things we could avoid to try and keep FND at bay… but do we want her to miss Halloween? Bonfire Night? Christmas? Nights out? Normal teenage experiences? Independence? I don’t want her life to become smaller just because we understand the triggers better. So for anyone who’s already been through an autumn/winter with FND — how did you find that balance? What genuinely helped? What did you adapt, what did you still do anyway, and what do you wish you’d known the first time round? We’re learning as we go 🤎 #FND #FunctionalNeurologicalDisorder #FNDCommunity #ChronicIllnessParenting #ParentingThroughFND
