Well we also have to account that not every new Air Bender became a Air Nomad. A handful did reboot the Air Nomads but who knows how many Air Benders there actually are. We have to acknowledge that being a Air Bender ≠ Air Nomad. We do see a Air Nomad in this show its a woman that has the Tattoo and all which means Air Nomads are still kicking its just not all Air Benders are Air Nomads.

the new element symbols arent actually the "new element symbols" they are what the Ellora military uses to identify the element their soldiers bend, the opening still has the symbols we all know and love

I think the reason why the reaction to this is "Karthik is evil" id bcz the only time we saw this particular technique be used was with Zaheer. Some people are even calling it " Void bending" as if its a sub element of air. To me it just shows that the era of Air benders being pacifist nomads is long over. Just bcz we have Air benders doesn't mean we have the old airbender culture. I mean im sure some of it is alive somewhere in some form but the original one is gone.

Can’t wait to see how the other Havens work because the symbols might just be for this specific Haven, but I wonder how other Haven’s cultures and concepts and imagery will different from this one because according to some panels we’re gonna see a Airbender with Airbender tattoos in a different Haven

Theres the symbols, there’s the reduction of non-benders to helpless/harmless civilians, so much of this show’s worldbuilding rn is to show how far the world has changed from when we last saw it in LoK.

But they quite literally didn’t come from that tho. The airbending nomads were already dead and the last remaining family of born and raised nomads attempted to impart those life long teachings onto fully developed, culturally different people. That was never happening.

air nomads also weren't always the pacifists. have we learned nothing from the aangs movie? there may have been a direct subsection that was more pacifist then the rest but as a general rule of thumb bending is just bending

the heavens are an even more extreme version of the segregation that there was before as their basically forbidden from interacting and benders are taken away from family and general population to work for the government under their control and how few there are they are basically being told "be a tool or die" a darker show would probably depict a genocide imo

in my eyes, it's them seeing bending more as a weapon than a discipline. Karthik is a military commander, he's going to do whatever he needs to complete his mission, even if it's morally questionable.
