Lil Jon grew up in Atlanta watching his mom give herself insulin shots. When he was about 6, he picked up one of her needles because he wanted to see how the air felt on his eye, and he stabbed himself by accident. It left him with a traumatic cataract. He had multiple surgeries, including a corneal transplant, and went to school in a metal eye patch. The kids teased him for it. "I became shy. But somehow I turned it into, 'I want to always prove people wrong,'" he told PEOPLE. Years later he was carrying his own records into clubs around the country so they would play his music.
