@gabbettfamilytravels: Land of the free, but not free from worrying whether your kid comes home from school. Kids shouldn't have to be afraid to go to school, and parents shouldn't be afraid to send them. It's one of the reasons we homeschool. Our hearts are with every family affected by the tragedy in Bend, Oregon, and every family who has lost a child too soon. At least 52 shootings have happened on U.S. school and college grounds this year. That's more than one a week. And there have been more mass shootings this year than days in the year so far. Guns are now the leading cause of death for American children and teens, and no other wealthy country comes close. We keep hearing "it's not guns, it's mental illness." If that's the answer, why are we cutting mental health programs? Roughly $2 billion in federal mental health grants were terminated in 2025. A $1 billion school mental health program that Congress created after Uvalde was also cut. It feels like protecting gun rights keeps coming before protecting our kids. Our children deserve better. 💔
