A huge problem is consumerism. I’m working on getting out of overconsumption and consumerism addiction. It drains your finances like the dessert water.

Indo 🇹🇹🇨🇦 here. Got undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with NO loan and parents couldn’t afford to give me money; worked and paid for courses 1-3 at a time and earned a full scholarship. Pay my housing and food costs first. Pay for everything in cash or don’t buy it. Live within my means. Bought property 5 years ago and will be finished paying my mortgage by December 2027; I make weekly payments, double up payments every week and lump sum payments every year. Stopped spending on designer clothes and eating out but do pay cash for yearly vacations; no cash no vacation. If I allow over $100 on my visa that’s a crisis that has to be eliminated ASAP.

I’m an Indian guy who didn’t grow up with a lot of money. Everything you are saying is 💯💯💯. We are conditioned to just save, save, save from a very young age and any sort of debt (besides something like a mortgage I guess) is an absolute hell no. Great video!

I can appreciate this because I hear insane similarities to a responsible Caribbean person. I calculated what it takes to SURVIVE per month then I checked what it would take to live comfortably per month then deducted the survival amount was from the comfort amount to see what the wiggle room was. Saved the comfort amount for 12 months to compensate for inflation and economic changes I will never stop grinding for a year but I could if I wanted to. Then I continued with my future plans.

this was the #1 issue I had with my ex. I was debt free and saved and my ex, was the opposite. I was naive in not verifying financial tolerance.

This is why my Indian Dad (CPA) threatened my life if even thought about ruining his credit score when he underwrote my loan for my first car. He was kind of kidding but not really 🫣 I paid that ish off in like 2 years (5 year loan horizon). I miss him♥️

as an 🇮🇳🇨🇦 person, I just realized that I am naturally financially high strung without anyone in my family teaching me to be this way 🤣 it's very intergenerationally programmed. I also worked 7 days a week for most of my life, not because I needed to ?!?! lmao I am only starting to calm down because I am almost 40.
