@leokatiecbt: Experiencing an OCD flare-up after a period of stability often triggers a wave of panic, frustration, and grief. The immediate instinct is to treat the sudden surge of intrusive thoughts as proof that all your therapeutic progress has unraveled, driving you straight into obsessive dissecting and mental analysis. However, flare-ups are an expected part of long-term recovery. External stressors, hormonal fluctuations, fatigue, and major life changes naturally strain the nervous system, making intrusive thoughts louder and compulsions more tempting. Instead of fighting the intrusive noise or judging yourself for feeling triggered, returning to fundamental exposure principles disengaging from rituals, allowing uncertainty, and extending radical self-compassion allows the wave to pass without rebuilding the obsessive cycle. #ocdrecovery #ocdflareup #ocdawareness #pureo #mentalhealthsupport

As the Mum whose child has OCD it's really important for me to just relax when a flare up is happening. I need to put it in perspective and remember how far she has come. Recovery isn't in a straight line. That's what makes those victories along the way so much sweeter. But I say nothing about these victories (for want of a better word), I just celebrate them internally and sometimes a quiet teary in private 🥹🙏🩷
