this was not a cook out, they were preparing food for preservation ( winter para ration) and the harvest. in the 60s and 70s my mother canned and frozen vegetables/ fruits for the winter.

I used to watch my grandmother and my great grandmother can together growing up. My grandmother had all the fruit trees, and my great grandmother had all the vegetables/beans and chickens. My best friend Neighbor family had cows. So our community and Chickasha Oklahoma never really needed any outside entities to feed themselves.

these skills and crafts are still known and practiced but not on the levels of the 20s and 40s. when home economics was taught in school, FFA and 4-H was offered. these techniques was prevalent.
