I make between 600k and $800k a year. I can’t afford a house and I rent an apartment. I do not have a family. I do not live in LA, Miami, New York, Seattle, or San Francisco. Something is very wrong.

You nailed it. I am in a similar income bracket. This is not capitalism. It is central bank supported inflation masquerading as growth

people are angry with you, but you are correct. if someone who makes a lot of money can’t afford a nice house, how can we expect people who make less to afford anything at all

I’m an accountant and I tell ppl all of the time the housing market is not sustainable! Assets should not appreciate at the rate that they currently are which means something is wrong! Instead of critically thinking they just shoot me down and say that’s the point of investing! 😩😩😩😩😩😩

There was a video I just saw of a guy calling boomers who bought their house 5 years ago for 225k and they were selling it for 500k. Called them and asked what improvements they had done. Painted it. He asked why they thought it appreciated if they didn't do anything to it. They just cussed at him. They firmly believe it appreciates with no effort

AND whats insane is no one believes you and when they see the numbers their solution is to shrug and say “just move to a less expensive area” With love from South Florida

Also this assume they put the whole 75k down. To compare with assets you have to calculate putting like 20k down in 1975 and putting and estimated mortgage payment in the S&P every month for 15-20 years

These comments are wild. The number of people fighting you is insane. My husband and I are also in the 1% of income. Have been for the last 10 years. We are fortunate enough to invest a lot of our money. Hoping that when we are in our boomer age our investments pay off. We also struggle to find a house that is priced correctly for what is offered. We ask ourselves the same thing about housing ALL THE TIME! When we make more than 99% of the world why do these houses seem so out of reach and who the hell is buying them

You guys are completely missing his point. At the top 1% he SHOULDNT have to be looking for a LESS EXPENSIVE AREAS. This is the whole point of his video. No one, in any category, of workforce salary, while living below their means, CAN COMFORTABLY AFFORD A HOUSE.

In 2026, the rich ppl have to buy basic middle-class homes. The middle class families have to buy working class homes. And the working class has to live in a house with like 3 other families to survive. This is a hot mess.

I live in mass and live in a 2.5 million dollar home and make 700 a year and we never vacation or go away. I can’t move bc the other homes in wealthier towns are 4-7 million

What if the thing people didn’t understand is that $200,000/yr is actually minimum wage today, and anything below that is a poverty / debt spiral in 70% of the population centers of the country.

I think his standards are (rightfully so) high when he means affording the home he wants. We all are used to settling these days. Bills go up, settle. Not getting enough of a raise, settling. Crappier food, settling. Buying a $700,000 fixer upper on Long Island (what choice do I have?) - settling 😭

We are technically in the upper middle class based on joint income. When we got pregnant with twins, i couldn’t afford daycare for 2 infants. I bought secondhand toys and clothes and never went out to eat or ordered in. These were the sacrifices to survive and save for retirement that my parents never made. Splurging, 1 income household, etc. we never take a holiday.
