Chill for 15–30 minutes. Melt sugar while stirring. Add butter and milk, then simmer for 1 minute. Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix in mascarpone. Spread half the cream over the biscuit base. Make a well, add caramel and cover with the remaining cream. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
