@keds_economist: Another candid vid taken by my husband. This time: why is it so hard to talk and write about changing #healthinsurance ? #medicareforall #medicare #medicaid
Just think of all the new small businesses that could be created if we had universal healthcare.

What I don’t get is why employers themselves aren’t lobbying against having insurance tied to employment. It’s an expensive pain in the butt for them to manage too.

What really helped me understand the benefits of universal healthcare was the idea of unlocking it from employment so if I lost my job or quit it because it sucked, I would still be covered without paying crazy COBRA prices. It was such a freeing idea I could barely imagine it. Maybe use something like Guaranteed Health Insurance or American Health Insurance or a combo?

Yeah, so I work for a large employer, and if I stay with my current healthcare plan, my portion of the premium for a high deductible plan is increasing 25%. This just isn’t feasible for me AND the company.

I hate that we call them "premiums". there is nothing "premium" about my health insurance rate. it's a rate.

I have worked healthcare my entire career as a RN and now I coordinate care for patients with insurance barriers. People can’t afford Medicare so I do not like hearing “Medicare for all”. I want free single payer universal healthcare. My employer provided insurance is amazing because I work at a safety net hospital who values their team members but I will gladly give it up to end the amount of suffering I see.

I’m with you. I’m in MA and am a public school teacher on the GIC (health insurance pool for state and some municipal employees, with 5 plan options with both individual and family coverage). Over the last 3-4 years, our average premiums have gone up something like 20% (possibly more than that… I have it in a spreadsheet). The coverage has also gotten significantly worse (higher copays, less coverage, more denials, more red-tape). It’s gross.

The title, “How Americans Save with New Healthcare Program” . Who wouldn’t want to read that? It removes all the words that scare people away, like “universal, single payor, ‘Medicare for All”, “Medicaid” and puts Americans/Save/Healthcare in one headline! Use it!

My question is how do we deal with all of the for profit health insurance companies? How do we eliminate an entire for profit industry? What does that look like? How do we *effectively* and *practically* combat the fierce and well funded opposition from for profit health insurance companies?

people need to understand there would be no more medical bankruptcy. no more depleting retired folks nest egg caring for one spouse, leaving no money for the remaining spouses medical needs and nursing home, etc.
