icl if like u were to graduate from a mediocre university from uk or us it still wld leave a much bigger impression on employers in sg js cuz they tend to glorify international applicants

To be fair, America is pretty self-absorbed in their own country's greatness so makes sense that they only want American degrees. I'm wondering if this is the case in other countries too?

I believe that in the US where she is residing, residents there wouldn't really consider NUS and NTU because US has its own local universities and these universities are more appealing for them because US citizens would want a subsidised university education that their government offers. However, on the other hand, there would be Americans who are aware about NUS and NTU and other universities in Singapore if they were to do exchange for instance. Therefore, in the US, employers might not recognise Uni graduates who graduated in Singapore because they dont even know these universities. Additionally, these can also be evident should the roles be reversed (US graduates in Singapore). Anyways, I hope thay you are safe in America and you enjoy the environment over there.

No employers really care where you graduated from esp if you are from overseas. All they care about is your experience and capabilities. Don't know the hype about a handful of SG unis. Same here in Australia.

We’re raised to aim only for local Uni while our neighbours’ (Malaysia Indo) top students ALWAYS knew to go further like US/UK/AUS EU Uni. In the end they come to SG & earn higher 😭

QS ranking is only for academics and universities.. it means nothing for other careers - sad to say. Even some SG unis don’t recognise their own when recruiting for professors that’s why they say if you want to be “a successful academic” you need to go overseas either in your bachelors, masters, PhD, etc.. the NUS, NTU and SMU only sets you for a career in SG

feel like it goes both ways, in the US each state has their own state school which are like the NUS/NTU/SMU of their state but go outside the US and most people don’t even know about these state schools, only oxbridge, ivy league, MIT, stanford and to some extent UC berkeley (only state school on the list) are known throughout the world

Nobody cares about QS ranking outside of east asia. The only place where ive been asked that was in japan when i was applying for visa. School rankings are irrelevant outside of masters degree because they are typically based on research outputs. And undergraduates don’t really contribute much in that anyways.

US universities take precedence, even those that are much lower ranking. You’ll get a much higher paid job. NUS and NTU still got chance for h1b1 visa and get interview. SMU and SIM and all that not really
