Cubed Steaks with Gravy 8 cubed steaks Drizzle oil on both sides *mix seasonings together in a separate bowl and use a few tsp of the seasoning blend to season both sides* Seasoning blend: 1 tsp each of: Garlic powder Onion powder Italian seasoning Smoked paprika 1/2 tsp pepper Salt to taste 2 tsp of beefy onion soup mix Coat both sides of the cubed steaks in flour Add oil and 1 Tbsp salted butter to a pan Sear both sides of the cubed steaks on medium-high heat for about 2 minutes per side Do this in batches to not overcrowd the pan. Add more oil and butter as needed. Do not drain the pan drippings or fond. Add 1/2 sliced onion and minced garlic to taste. Add 1 tsp beef bouillon paste or powder and 2 Tbsp of flour. Cook for 1 minute. Add 1 cup of water and the rest of the beefy onion soup mix. Mix well. Add 2 more cups of water. The gravy will thicken as it cooks. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Add the cubed steaks back to the gravy. Cover and bake at 325°F for 2.5-3 hours or until desired tenderness is achieved. *disclaimer* my cubed steaks are always tender, likely due to cleaning & soaking in a water, lemon & vinegar solution for 10-20 minutes prior to getting started.
