![The Glasgow indie rock quartet Life Without Buildings broke up in 2002 after releasing one excellent album, ‘Any Other City,’ on the @RoughTradeRecords-affiliated Tugboat Records. They left behind a cult following that has grown in recent years, with a new generation discovering their music from Frank Ocean’s Beats 1 radio show and a TikTok trend sparked by beabadoobee. Life Without Buildings’ DNA is in a number of modern UK groups; you can hear the influence of their playful post-punk instrumentation and Sue Tompkins’ talky vocal style on bands like Dry Cleaning and Sleaford Mods (who enlisted Tompkins for the Rough Trade single “No Touch” just last month). On November 20, Life Without Buildings will reunite for their first show since breaking up. It takes place at KOKO in London as part of Rough Trade’s 50th anniversary celebration. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Rough Trade also announced a curated subscription series of 50 essential albums, which will be reissued and arrive in five batches of ten apiece, starting next month.
