im an "avoidant" and i have absolutely no sympathy for the avoidants who insist on getting into relationships. why would u put someone through that??? and yes i became an avoidant because i was abused by one that i was intimate with.

You’re right- attachment styles are derived from child psychology in that different parenting style create different attachment styles. People use them as an excuse for poor behavior in interpersonal relationships.

right cuz they pick and choose who they do this too depending on how much they think they need to respect them based on the hierarchy that person has in their life

I knew the attachment styles was complete bs once I treated an avoidant the exact same way he was treating me, and he started to crash out bc he hated it.

attachment styles are very real but our study of them was meant to influence parenting not dating. once you're an adult attachment style is not an excuse to hurt someone

Attachment theory was created in the 80s by John Boulby after he observed infants with their primary caregivers. The Internet took this theory and did what the Internet does with it.

Attachment theory gives you the illusion of controlling a situation you have no control over because people will do what they want regardless. That’s the whole point of attachment theory imho. If I have a framework that instructs me how to influence people’s decisions according to my behavior, I will believe I can hijack their nervous system and control the connection. It took radical acceptance and honesty to understand how immaturely I approached relationships.

I have been thinking about this. I thought I was an anxiously attached person but the relationship that made feel like I needed constant reassurance was because he was constantly playing in my face. Once I moved on and learnt to have better boundaries I have not had to deal with being "anxiously attached"

Yes. I believe it’s just that we live under psychopathic governments and social structures and it trickles down into interpersonal relationships.

Attachment styles do exist as a psychology major. Knowing them is NOT to give empathy it is to understand WHO you are dealing with and LEAVE. If you do start to understand your attachment styles you can lead to a secure attachment which is basically emotional regulation. So yes they are real and yes this video can be HARMFUL.

I feel like it’s gotten to the point where people much rather put a name to the issue, rather than actively combating said issue.

I think people take complex concepts and water them down. It’s a psychological theory…not a trendy topic on Tik Tok. I’d highly suggest talking with an expert to get a more accurate understanding of this theory.
