I would collect the data and conduct the FBA, as it is not currently disruptive, but if escape or attention maintained, could escalate. Collect and monitor the data collection over time. If it is serving a sensory function, and not developmentally appropriate, a more appropriate replacement behavior may be implemented. I would suggest collecting frequency/duration during the independent work time.

I would do a fba to determine if it happens in the absence of demand, with the hypothesis of the function being escape or automatic, I would also collect abc and conduct an indirect assessment to determine if it’s socially valid to intervene
