O ministro da Secom de Lula, Sidônio Palmeira, chegou a ter uma discussão com ânimos exaltados com o jornalista Fábio Portela, chefe da comunicação da campanha de Flávio. O ministro de Lula conversava com Andressa Guaranáh, diretora de jornalimo da emissora, no palco, quando foi abordado pelo assessor de Flávio. Sidônio, então, reagiu e pediu que Portela não encostasse nele. “Não encosta em mim, que eu não quero falar com você”, afirmou o chefe da Secom. O clima esquentou, e a equipe da Band precisou afastar o ministro. O advogado Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, amigo pessoal de Lula, também atuou para evitar a confusão. Sidônio já estava incomodado com a estratégia de Flávio de permanecer atrás de Lula durante as falas do petista. Pelas regras do debate, os candidatos podiam circular livremente pelo palco. Segundo apurou a coluna, Flávio foi treinado para permanecer no enquadramento de Lula. A estratégia foi adotada em uma tentativa de constranger o adversário. A tensão voltou a aparecer nas considerações finais. Irritado ao ver Flávio novamente atrás do presidente, Sidônio se levantou e gritou: “Flávio, sai de trás do Lula”.
