@phre3.0: Otters are surprisingly clever animals. Sea otters are among the few non-primate mammals known to use tools, often smashing shellfish open with rocks and sometimes keeping a favorite rock tucked into a loose pocket of skin under their forearm. They also have incredibly dense fur because, unlike seals and whales, they rely heavily on fur rather than a thick layer of blubber to stay warm. They are also famously social. Sea otters sometimes hold hands while resting so they do not drift apart, and groups floating together are called rafts. They also play an important ecological role by eating sea urchins, which helps protect kelp forests. So the hand-holding is adorable, but they are also quietly doing coastal ecosystem management.#fypシ
