and honestly why is ‘majoring in a hobby’ even treated like a bad thing? i’m a science major and my favorite thing to do IS to learn about science !! that’s hobby, that’s my passion. some people want others to be so miserable that they can’t comprehend people actually pursuing their dreams

the silent “oh okay” people give me as a film major, not realizing they go home to watch movies, the news, music videos, tv show, corporate media, etc

art is inherently human. we’ve made music and told stories since we could stand on two feet no matter where we are in the world i hate to see our essence dismissed to a dollar value

I understand the wanting to be financially stable but that's the problem. art is so important you should be paid more to be educated and have a career in those things ...

Doesn’t everyone “major in a hobby”? I’m only seeking a career in aviation because one of my hobbies is staring at planes

I know this could be the wrong comment section to say this, but...I 100% agree some people are majoring in a hobby. A key part of thriving in arts is doing the right connections to know when and where to show your art, and a lot of ppl still think that making good art is just being weird and depressed, instead of taking it as it is: A REAL JOB

if everyone becomes an engineer or computer scientist not only will our society be robbed of all art and creativity but it also just won’t freaking function 😭 we need teachers. we need sociologists. we need anthropologists. we need writers. these are all important roles in our society

Like I think we need more people majoring in their hobbies, I’m gonna major in something I like and enjoy and not something I’m depressed in. I love my majors n minor and the work never feels annoying it always feels exciting to learn about these new things

“Designing mobile apps and making them look good isn’t a major” but then complain about how their bank app looks like it was made in 1980s, how frustrating the canceling subscription process is, how their favorite app isn’t customizable and accessible
