NadaMoo, a family-owned dairy-free brand that uses Fair Trade certified agave and chocolate. Mackie's, a fifth-generation Scottish dairy farm that sends its extra renewable power to the national grid. Alden's, where every single product has been certified organic since it started in 2004. Small independent ethical brands, and the giants are heading somewhere completely different. Breyers sold a tub nationwide made with milk protein brewed in a tank by a genetically engineered fungus, labeled animal-free dairy. Nestlé tested a milk drink with that same protein, and while both got pulled, the supplier has been building a large factory in India.
