@thevoiceofav: THE VOICE OF APPLE VALLEY - Homeless in Apple Valley Today, I personally spent over 15 minutes speaking with a homeless man about his life, his struggles and how he ended up living on our streets. He shared that following an arrest & 8 months in jail, he was released in Victorville & eventually lost his job as a result of his incarceration. Having previously worked in Apple Valley, he considers our town familiar territory. However, he has no family in the area & very little support. Today, he lives in a tent along the Mojave Riverbed with several other homeless individuals. He spends his days walking our streets asking for money, accompanied by his dog, which he continues to care for. He told me he wants to work, he has construction experience, but his recent incarceration has made finding a job difficult. His story is a reminder that homelessness isn’t always as simple as people assume. There are individuals living on our streets who want an opportunity to get back on their feet but face significant obstacles. On a positive note, thanks to the efforts of Barstow Councilmember John “Tex” Williams, a new High Desert regional homelessness committee has formed, with Apple Valley Mayor Scott Nassif & Mayor Pro Tem Kari Leon joining to represent our town. Councilmember Williams has been working to help individuals transition off the streets and return to productive, stable lives in his city. It’s encouraging to see Apple Valley participating in a regional effort to address an issue that appears to be growing in our community. Homelessness isn’t just about getting people off the streets. It’s about helping people find a path forward & sometimes, understanding the problem starts with taking 15 minutes to listen to someone’s story. #applevalleyca

It does have resources. When you are getting out of jail they ask you if you need help getting housing. The problem is substance abuse and mental health. Listen now at days nobody cares. Even the people with theses homes that help the just released do it for the $ not to help. The greed is heavy in the world.

Just yesterday, I came across a 20 year old young lady, homeless. I made sure she had food, extra clothes, toiletries and even invited her to my home so she could shower. I then took her back to where she stays and it breaks my heart. She has no family so I am going to keep an eye on her and help as much as I can. When I dropped her off, a gentleman came looking for her and brought her food. It was beautiful to see that there are still some of us that have compassion and not look at them as a problem. The lack of empathy in this country is astonishing, I pray we all find our hearts again and help when we can without judgment!
