🚨 SON KEPT MUM’S BODY IN FREEZER FOR NEARLY THREE YEARS WHILE CLAIMING £78,000 IN BENEFITS ❄️ A man who kept his elderly mother’s body hidden inside a chest freezer for almost three years has been jailed after continuing to claim more than £78,000 in her pension and benefits. Christopher Phillips, 60, from Porthcawl, admitted preventing the lawful burial of his mother, Sylvia Phillips, and committing fraud after failing to report her death in March 2023. When police carried out a welfare check in February this year, Phillips claimed his mother had moved to London. Officers became suspicious and searched the property, where they discovered her body inside a chest freezer decorated with flowers. The court heard Phillips had been his mother’s full-time carer for many years and struggled to accept her death. He told police he “didn’t want to let her go” and would continue talking to her about television and horse racing, sometimes opening the freezer to hold her hand. Despite concealing her death, he continued receiving her pension, attendance allowance, housing benefit, winter fuel payments and other financial support worth more than £78,000. A post-mortem could not establish Sylvia’s exact cause of death, but police said there were no suspicious circumstances. Phillips was sentenced to two years and four months in prison, with confiscation proceedings expected to follow. What do you make of this incredibly unusual case? #fyp #crime #uk #truecrime #prison
