@tim41610: Holy water is one of the Church’s most accessible and powerful sacramentals. Blessed by a priest, it is a sacred sign that obtains spiritual effects through the intercession of the Church. St. Teresa of Ávila spoke from experience when she said, “There is nothing like Holy Water to put devils to flight and prevent them from coming back again.” Beyond driving away evil, holy water recalls our baptism, symbolizes purification, and can remit venial sins. St. Thomas Aquinas taught that the sprinkling of holy water wipes out the debt of venial sin. Catholics are encouraged to use it regularly. Many keep small bottles at home to bless themselves, their families, workspaces, vehicles, and living spaces. Simply making the Sign of the Cross with holy water is sufficient, though a short prayer such as “By this holy water and by Your Precious Blood, wash away all my sins, O Lord” may be added. Rooted in Scripture and long Church tradition, holy water remains a simple yet effective means of inviting God’s protection and grace into daily life. Credit to Totus Tuus
