Mexican sunflower - it probably grew extra tall before flowering to get out of the shade from the tree. Pollinators love mine!

100% Mexican sunflower (tithonia rotundifolia). Here’s ours in Ohio this morning after two consecutive nights of freezing. Maybe the easiest annual to grow to 8 feet+ from seed in a single season that gets absolutely covered in flowers that monarch butterflies love. Ours get to 10-12 feet+ when I bother giving them fertilizer. They make a complete wall of the most vibrant orange flowers from late summer thru freezing.

I love how soft and fuzzy the flower stems are on Tithonia. It’s about to be a pollinator magnet.

It could be a clematis flower. They can do all kinds of crazy things and it's kind of a toss up in what color/shape they take as they cross pollinate with a ton of stuff.

I have a freak plant like that! I’ve watered mine for months thinking it was a Godzilla marigold or something! We named it The Freak bc it didn’t bloom until last week!
