@drstephenrue: “EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE. BUT NOT EVERYTHING COSTS MONEY.” In his timeless book *Walden*, Henry David Thoreau offered one of the most profound observations about the true cost of living. He reminds us that the price of something is not simply what we pay in dollars. It is “how much of our life we exchange to obtain it.” Think about that for a moment. That bigger house. That promotion. That impressive title. That lifestyle we work so hard to maintain. What did they really cost us? Perhaps years of our lives. Time with people we love. Our health. Our peace of mind. Or opportunities to experience the very happiness we believed those achievements would bring. And sometimes, the greatest cost is not what we purchase or pursue, but what we sacrifice along the way. I believe there is an important distinction between “making a living and designing a life.” Making a living is necessary. But designing a meaningful life requires us to ask a deeper question: “Am I spending my life on what truly matters to me?” Time is the one resource we cannot earn back. Every day, we exchange a portion of our lives for something—whether consciously or unconsciously. The question is whether that exchange reflects our values, our purpose, our relationships, and the person we are becoming. Success matters. Achievement matters. Financial security matters. But so do love, presence, connection, laughter, health, and the quiet moments that make being alive worthwhile. A flourishing life is not necessarily one in which we accumulate the most. “It is one in which we make the most meaningful use of the life we have.” “ “What are you spending too much of your life pursuing—and what truly matters that deserves more of your time?” Remember, my friend, you have only one life to live. Make it count. — Dr. Stephen Rue Author of *MUST: Becoming the Person You Are Meant to Be* DrStephenRue.com “EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE.
