Here's the full deep lore on *Rick C-137* — the Rickest Rick. He's not just "a Rick." He's *THE* Rick. The main character we follow for most of the show. 1. Who is C-137? C-137 is his dimension designation. It means he originally came from Dimension C-137. Every Rick has a different origin dimension, but he is the one who invented portal travel and became the standard all other Ricks are measured against. He's also called "Rickest Rick" by the Citadel because he's the most brilliant, most ruthless, and most isolated of them all. 2. His Backstory - The Real Origin This is the tragic core they only reveal in pieces until Season 5 / Season 7. *Before everything:* C-137 was a normal-ish scientist. Younger, with black hair, married to *Diane Sanchez*, had a baby daughter *Beth*. He was working on portal travel in his garage, obsessed. *The offer:* One day, a Rick from another dimension - *Rick Prime* - came through a portal. Prime had already invented portal travel and was jumping realities recruiting other Ricks. He offered C-137 the secret to portal travel so he could leave his family and join the infinite Ricks. C-137 said no. He wanted to stay with Diane and Beth. *The murder:* Rick Prime, furious at being rejected, killed Diane and baby Beth right in front of him in C-137, with a bomb through a portal. He left C-137 alive in the burning garage. That moment broke him. That is why our Rick is nihilistic, alcoholic, and hates other Ricks. *The hunt:* After that, C-137 spent decades building his own portal gun from scratch, not to explore, but to hunt Rick Prime across the infinite multiverse for revenge. He killed thousands of other Ricks who got in his way - which is why he's hated by the Citadel. He never found Prime for like 30+ years. 3. Why He Ended Up With Our Morty After Diane died, he gave up. He was a wreck, alone in space. Eventually he landed in a reality where Beth had grown up without him - a reality where Beth and Diane had been abandoned by _that_ dimension's Rick. That Beth grew up, married Jerry, had Summer and Morty. That Morty is our Morty - *Morty C-137 is NOT his original Morty, it's Morty Prime / C-131?* Actually our Morty is Morty C-137 from the Cronenberged dimension. Rick C-137 moved in with that Smith family because he needed family. He pretends he doesn't care, but he chose them. He actually loves Morty because Morty is the only one who can calm his brainwaves and hide him from the Federation - but also because he's the closest thing he has left to his dead daughter. That's why in Season 1 Episode 6, when he Cronenbergs the whole world and has to leave, he is devastated. He really lost a family again. 4. What Makes Him Different From Other Ricks - *He doesn't join the Citadel:* He hates the Citadel of Ricks because it's everything he refused. They are an empire of Ricks who abandoned family for infinite empire. He is a lone wolf. - *He truly cares:* Other Ricks see Mortys as disposable sidekicks / cloaking devices. C-137 actually sacrifices himself for Morty constantly. The Season 2 finale - he turns himself in to the Galactic Federation for his family. - *He is the smartest, but also the most self-destructive:* His intelligence is a curse. He invented everything - portal gun, Mega Seeds, Time Travel stuff you saw in your edit with "TIME TRAVEL STUFF" box. That box in the garage is literally all his abandoned dreams. - *He is canonically suicidal:* Episodes like Auto Erotic Assimilation, The Vat of Acid Episode - he literally tries to kill himself when he realizes love is pointless to him. 5. His Ending With Rick Prime This is the final closure in Season 7 Episode 5 "Unmortricken". After decades, C-137 finally teams up with Morty to kill Rick Prime.
