**UPDATE: Wayne Seiberlich with the Isanti County Sheriff's Office has reached out and has submitted interviews and evidence to the county attorney I’m a dog person… and this all started with dogs… but it is far larger than that now… and help is desperately needed Isanti County Animal Care & Control posted two “found” dogs, but one look at the comments made it clear this situation was far more complicated. A family decided to dump all of their animals and move to Texas. Two dogs were left with a relative who was desperately trying to get help. Thankfully, one has already been safely placed and we’re working hard to find placement for the second. Two more dogs had been dumped on the side of the road in November. Animal control picked them up, and they were adopted together and are now thriving. One dog was privately rehomed. Another dog made it to rescue. It has been messy and stressful, but we thought the animals were at least safe… and we were told the cats went to Texas with the family. Because of so many contradictions, we finally asked the family member to check again. Last night, we learned the truth. The cats were left behind. And it wasn’t “one or two.” It was an entire hoarding house of cats. Some cats had access to the house through a broken window, with no heat and no water. Others (about six of them) were barricaded in a single room with no way out, relying on a space heater for warmth and still no water. I called Isanti County Sheriff's Office to do a welfare check but they said couldn’t intervene. They also shared that they couldn’t do anything about cats despite the fact that some were barricaded with no chance at survival… that there are laws in Minnesota against abandonment of house cats… still nothing We were told we could enter once they left. On top of that, we learned the house will be fully shut down today and any animals still inside would be euthanized. So the clock started ticking. A group of incredible cat ladies rushed in bringing carriers, traps, supplies, knowledge, and places for them to sleep. Together we began pulling cats, one by one. They are skinny, dehydrated, exhausted, and very sick. We got some out out…but now they need veterinary care, medication, food, and safe housing. And this situation is only getting bigger as we continue trapping today. We desperately need funding to give these cats the care they deserve and should have never been denied. We need people to share so that action is taken against people who abandon animals like this so that hopefully one day it stops. #cats #hoarding #minnesota #abuse #neglect @Kitten Kam Rescue
