As someone who works in a data centre what's your concerns? legitimately what is the concern? I've heard "they run generators for a couple hours every day's is very wrong, ok infact they run them every 2-3 months for 2 hours where I work anyway to ensure maintenance is up kept so they don't need to run constantly and they barely make a sound or smoke. Electricity consumption? yeah they use a lot of electricity but only a specific amount is allocated and we are charged heavily for the usage, but we also have tons of means to recycle energy and be self sufficient as to not burden the grid at all, infact our centre recently gave a statistical report that we provided extra power back to the power grid than we used over an extended period. So what are your concerns? where I work is in charge of keeping crucial Australian infrastructure running including medical facilities and emergency services that help keep people alive which I feel is necessary. Water usage? well it takes less water to run 10 AI servers than it takes to grow 1 Almond or avocado, and no one attacks them especially since those are luxuries... in fact many if not most data centres in Australia use methods that use next to none of no water consumption to function, ours definitely don't.

I don’t think people comprehend Data centres are critical infrastructure for a country. If Australia doesn’t develop them the country will fall behind. Agree they should be built in certain places but these stupid comments “ban all data centres” “we don’t need them” people really have no idea.

I don’t think people have looked and see how people’s lives are affected, who live around data centres. At first it may not be big but they are taking water supply. Not only will your water pressure over time become more shit, your water will literally start to look like shit. Unfortunately to say your water bill may become bigger because they are not only supplying fuck ass water centres, they are trying to supply households. This isn’t beneficial in no way. Whether it is greens just having ‘another’ fuss, this will affect us way more than everyone is thinking. They don’t keep this stuff a secret because it benefits us.
