@casuallybengali: Look at his eyes. The fear in them. The way a doctor has to hold him close and comfort him because his little body is trembling with terror. There are children his age who are afraid of the dark, who run into their parents’ arms after a bad dream, who cry over a scraped knee and find comfort in being told that everything will be okay. But what do you tell a child in Gaza when the very thing he’s afraid of is happening all around him? How do you explain to someone so little that the world can be this cruel? How do you convince him that he’s safe when even the places meant to protect and heal him are surrounded by fear? A child this young should know the warmth of his mother’s embrace, the excitement of a new toy, the sound of bedtime stories. His little heart should be racing from laughter and running around with friends, not trembling from terror. And what breaks me the most is knowing that even if the violence ends tomorrow, the fear these children have experienced may stay with them for years. No child should ever have to learn what terror feels like before they’ve even had the chance to understand what life is.
