I held off as long as I could but my contractions were so painful I wasn’t getting any sleep and I asked my CNA at 3 in the morning if I should do it and she said “baby you would be asleep right now” so I said ok I want it ! He came in and she held me while he gave me my epidural and I knocked out unfortunately it didn’t work well for me (I was on a mag drip that basically counter interacted the epidural) so I was back to feeling everythinnnnggg once I woke up in the morning and then I had to go for a c-section and once I was on the table getting prepped they pushed it on in and all the pain went away. Your back will hurt for awhile after but nothing too bad my back kills me sometimes but it’s here and there pain. I’m a big believer of everybody’s body is different, I hope it works the best for you 🤍

Ill be honest but i dont want you to be scared, it really freaked me out watching them move my legs around and not being able to move them myself at all. It was just really weird for me

My epidural was flawless. I could tell I was pushing but didn’t feel anything, not even pressure. I ended up having to have a C-Section though so I’m very thankful for the epidural I already had on top of everything they gave me in the OR.

I held off on the epidural on my first. By the time I got it I was begging for it. So that helped with my fear bc I was scared about the epidural leading up to labor. My next 2 I got the epidural as soon as I was able to. For me, I didn’t see the needle. They had me sit up, push my spine out, and stay still. The doctor was behind me the whole time. I just felt pressure. The pain from the contractions definitely distracts your mind. At least it did for me. Try and get it as soon as it’s offered.

no i wasn’t worried about my epidural even though a student resident was doing it because my contractions were focused in my butthole LMAO my epidural was amazing

The first one I didn’t feel because my contractions were so hard, so not scary. The second was for a planned C-section. The asked my to push my back onto the needle. I couldn’t do that so 2 nurses slowly pushed me back. It wasn’t too bad but I felt it. Didn’t care because I was so excited to see my baby

The contractions are way scarier then the epidural. I was just wanting to them to be faster cuz I was getting them back to back while they were sticking a foot long needle in me. Idk how I managed to stay completely still but I did

I had the epidural I loved it, until it stopped working on one side. I thought I was dying while giving birth. I went from zero pain to the most pain I had ever felt.

I wasn’t planning on getting it but I had stopped progressing because I was so exhausted and the epidural let me take a good hard nap for a couple hours, when I woke up I went from 3cm to 7cm so it was so helpful to be able to finally rest! The worst part was the anesthesiologists come in pairs at my hospital and one of them was talking to the one putting the needle in and it sounded like she was a student the way he spoke to her so that freaked me the hell out and I couldn’t stop crying because I was scared that a student was placing it. I ended up getting a spinal first before they could put the epidural catheter in. It was a scary 5-10 minutes to get it placed but once it was in it was fine! You can still kinda feel your legs it just felt like they were asleep, tingly but you could feel if you touched them. If you can’t feel anything they have the medicine too high and they can lower it to make you feel more comfortable with the process! I’m 7 weeks postpartum now and have had no issues at all. My back was sore for the first 2 weeks and tender where it was placed but it’s completely healed and the same as before pregnancy now

i was scared of the way my body would feel!! but it honestly just felt like my legs were asleep, like if you sit on them to long. literally what it felt like! it wasnt scary at all and i didnt feel any contractions

The epidural felt weird getting done it was like pressure while he was placing it but no pain the only thing that stung a little bit was him numbing the area but it doesn’t hurt and for being numb from the epidural it feels like your legs are like asleep which is so weird and I couldn’t touch my legs bc I didn’t like the tingly feeling but it was way better than having the contractions🤣

I went it not wanting the epidural but as soon as i was 3cm dilated the pain was so unbearable truly. I told them to give it to me and I was mortified at first but once they started I didnt even feel a thing! The numbing at first did sting the tinest bit for about a second but after you feel nothing. They finished and i was like what the heck already?? Loll

Also, update!! Almost 11 weeks!! I haven’t posted bc it’s actually been horrible this week especially. But so far so good, ob apt on the 28th to see bby again!!

It doesn’t hurt at all the contractions take ur mind off that needle and you’ll just be relieved that you’re not feeling the pain anymore

I got the spinal bc of my c section and I did panic and I had keep telling myself mentally the entire time to stop trying to move my legs and feet bc if I did I would start panicking again lol

I had 2 babies, the epidural I wouldn’t say it HURTS but it is annoying as hell I would say it feels like someone holding their thumb down realllllly hard on your lower back. And that’s only for a second when they first put it in. You’re not gonna see it, don’t look around for it lol just let them come in and do it close your eyes and breathe. My first baby I didnt feel contractions until like an hour before I had the baby my 2nd one i started having contractions weeks in advance, and it had started to quickly build up… I NEEDED that epidural 💯😭 it’s harder to stay still for the epidural when you’re having contractions so if you’re gonna get it ask for it ask SOON as you start getting crampy

Not scary at all. Just remain still. Focus on the baby, deep breathing too. You feel giving birth and pushing. For me it made me less tired. The contractions are intense and I was in labor for almost 20 hours. Then I went from a 2 to an 8 in an hour! It helped me. Good luck!

I had a peaceful birth!! I remember before getting my epidural I was very worked up. I couldn’t stop crying on and off saying how scared I was for it. My nurse was amazing. She talked me through it, and helped me calm down which made the insertion really quick! It honestly wasn’t bad at all. Best advice is making sure your nurse advocates for you, if you have a nurse you’re not a fan of or not comfortable with, request a different one! Your birth and labor CAN be peaceful and enjoyable

I was on pitocin, feeling every contraction. That hurt more than the epidural itself and having to stay super still through the contractions was worse.

My epidural was almost amazing. The doctor put in the numbing, but needed a bit more. As soon as I felt it I said "pain" and he immediately stopped and numbed me more. Then it was painless, but weird feeling. Then the meds hit and I took a BIG nap. Went from 3 to 10cm in ~2 hours. Was able to move, just not feel. Unfortunately, in prep for my not-quite-emergency C-section my iv drip line cracked, so I lost the epidural while they waited for an OR. Then I got a spinal block placed (same procedure, different meds) and everything was great! Baby was cram-jammed against my pelvis but had no problems
