Val Chmerkovskiy has been suspended from Dancing With the Stars for one week after a controversial social media post about judge Carrie Ann Inaba sparked backlash. The 40-year-old professional dancer will miss the October 20 episode after sharing a message following criticism of his wife, Jenna Johnson, during the competition’s October 13 episode. Inaba had questioned a lift included in Johnson’s samba with her celebrity partner, Harry Shum Jr., explaining that the move violated traditional samba rules. Val appeared frustrated with the critique. Shortly afterward, he posted a now-deleted TikTok message saying, “You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night.” Many viewers interpreted the remark as a reference to the 2022 Oscars incident in which Will Smith struck comedian Chris Rock after a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. BBC Studios, which produces the dance competition, subsequently confirmed Val’s one-week suspension, stating that his post was inappropriate and did not reflect the standards expected of people connected with the show. Val later addressed the decision in an Instagram Stories post, admitting that he had made a poor judgment while trying to defend his wife. He explained that he had not considered what the reference might imply and acknowledged that Inaba did not deserve to be caught in the middle. He also apologized publicly and said he would be cheering on his dance partner, Jenna Dewan, from home. Professional dancer Alan Bersten will partner with Dewan during Dedication Night. One post has turned a judging disagreement into a major off-camera controversy. \#DWTS #ValChmerkovskiy #CarrieAnnInaba #JennaDewan #celebritynews
