I’m turning a GIANT skeleton into a GIANT Jesus! 🙌 This oversized DIY Christian art project is part sculpture, part giant decor, and part faith filled creative experiment and one of the biggest questions I keep getting is: what am I actually making this thing out of? Since I can’t always get into all of the materials during my lives, I wanted to make one video specifically about how I’m building this giant sculpture from the inside out. First, I’m using masking tape and aluminum foil to block out some of the larger voids the cheekbones, temples, and other hollow areas so I’m not wasting expensive sculpting material just trying to create bulk. Over that, I’m adding foam clay to start building the actual shape of the face. A little water helps me smooth and manipulate it, but this still isn’t the final detail layer. Right now, I’m mostly concerned with getting the proportions and volume where I want them. For the finer sculpting, I’m using papier-mâché and Sculptamold, a lightweight modeling compound that combines some of the qualities of clay, plaster, and papier-mâché. It adheres to an armature, can be built up in layers, doesn’t shrink, and once dry it can even be sanded or carved which makes it really useful for refining the details on something this large. And finally, because this giant Jesus might be going OUTSIDE, I’m planning to coat the finished sculpture with Plasti Dip aerosol. Plasti Dip creates a flexible rubberized coating that helps protect surfaces from moisture, abrasion, corrosion, and changing weather conditions, so I’m hoping it will give this sculpture a much more durable exterior. The manufacturer recommends multiple coats for a stronger, more uniform finish, so I’ll be testing that carefully before I trust Jesus out in the rain. 😂 Basically: foil + tape for bulk, foam clay for form, papier-mâché and Sculptamold for detail, and Plasti Dip for protection. Follow along because we are getting VERY close to seeing whether all of these layers actually turn this giant skeleton into a giant Jesus. 🤎 #GiantJesus #DIY #christiancrafts #giantdecor #christmascrafts
