@boundbymemory: There’s something so frustrating about knowing somebody has probably looked at their phone multiple times throughout the day, yet somehow your message is still sitting there unanswered. 😭 Because let’s be real, most people check their phones constantly. They check the time, scroll through social media, respond to notifications, watch videos, and somehow find five minutes to look at something completely random. So when you’re sitting there waiting eight hours for a response from somebody who claims they’re interested in you, it’s understandable that your mind starts asking questions. Did they forget about me? Are they ignoring me? Am I just not important enough to respond to? And sometimes the most painful part isn’t even the waiting. It’s remembering how differently they used to communicate when you first started talking. Back then, they responded quickly, asked questions, initiated conversations, and made you feel like hearing from you was something they genuinely looked forward to. Now you’re lucky if you get three messages throughout the entire day, and somehow you’re supposed to pretend you haven’t noticed the difference. But here’s where things get complicated. Just because somebody checks their phone doesn’t necessarily mean they’re emotionally available to have a conversation. People work, study, deal with family responsibilities, experience stress, and sometimes simply need time away from constant communication. A delayed response by itself isn’t proof that somebody doesn’t care. What matters is the pattern. Are they consistently leaving you waiting while expecting you to respond immediately? Do they disappear for hours but suddenly become available when they want attention? Do they make plans to communicate and repeatedly fail to follow through? Or are they genuinely busy but still making an effort to connect with you when they can? Because there’s a huge difference between somebody having a life outside their phone and somebody treating communication with you like an inconvenience. And the truth is, most people aren’t asking for nonstop texting. They just want consistency. They want to know that the person they’re investing their feelings into actually wants to talk to them too. Sometimes a simple “Hey, today’s crazy, I’ll text you tonight” is enough to prevent hours of unnecessary uncertainty. Not because anybody owes their partner a detailed explanation of every moment, but because thoughtful communication can make somebody feel valued. And if you’re constantly staring at your phone, analyzing response times, and wondering whether somebody still likes you, it might be worth having an honest conversation about what you both expect. Because the goal shouldn’t be to find somebody who replies within thirty seconds every single time. It should be to find somebody whose communication makes you feel secure enough that you don’t have to spend your entire day wondering where you stand. Being busy is normal. Having different texting habits is normal. But consistently making somebody feel like they’re the only one trying to maintain the connection is a different story.
