I think this may be the most immersive walk I've ever been on and if you love the idea of hiking an old railway line where you can walk through old tunnels, cross bridges and dine on disused platforms you will love this. This is the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, an 8.5 mile traffic free trail and with cycle hire available along the route, it is perfect for cyclists as well as hikers. Stretching from Bakewell to Blackwell Mill, the route follows the former Manchester to London Midland Railway line which was closed in the 1960s and as you're walking you almost feel like you are the train with long old tunnels to go through, railway bridges to cross and old station platforms still visible along the path. There are two cafes hidden inside old stations which make for a really unique dining experience.  Hassop Station is at the Bakewell end of the trail and is huge with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and they do really really good cake.  Miller's Dale at the other end of the trail doesn't have quite as good a food offering but the station is amazing with both sides of the platform still visible.  You can enjoy a coffee alongside the old track and the interiors are so cute.   If you have the energy when you get to the iconic Headstone Viaduct you can take the short climb up to Monsal Head where you can enjoy incredible views, indulge in an ice-cream or enjoy a pint at the The Monsal Stables Bar. Save this for a Peak District adventure 📍 We recommend parking at Bakewell Station, Station Road DE45 1GE (alternative carparks in town centre) 🚴🏼‍♀️ Cycle hire available at Hassop Station and Blackwell Mill (closed until Spring 2027) ☕️ Coffee shops along the trail at Hassop Station, Quackers Cafe and The Refreshment Room at Millers Dale
