Managerial Career Carrick transitioned into coaching immediately after retiring as a player in 2018, initially serving as a first-team coach at Manchester United under José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. • Manchester United (Interim Stints): He briefly took temporary charge in late 2021 following Solskjær's departure, remaining unbeaten over three matches. • Middlesbrough (2022–2025): Carrick took his first permanent head-coaching role in October 2022. He managed 136 matches with Boro, implementing a highly praised 4-2-3-1 system and averaging 1.57 points per match. • Manchester United (Permanent appointment): Upon returning to Old Trafford in January 2026, he oversaw 11 wins in his first 16 games to drag United to a third-place finish.
