@paschal_47: IGBO FATHERS, PLEASE STOP EXCLUDING YOUR DAUGHTERS WHEN SHARING FAMILY PROPERTY! One issue that continues to create tension, resentment and division in some Igbo families is the exclusion of daughters from their father's inheritance simply because they are female. Let us remember something important: A daughter is not a stranger in her father's house. She is his child, his blood and a part of his legacy, just as his son is. In many families, daughters share a very special bond with their fathers. They love, care for, support and stand by them in difficult times. Some daughters go above and beyond to provide financial and emotional support to their parents, yet when it comes to sharing family property, they are sometimes told that they have no place because they are women. Is that fair? A father's love should not end where inheritance begins. If a daughter is good enough to love, care for and honour her father, why should she suddenly become less deserving when it comes to the property he leaves behind? Inheritance should be an opportunity to preserve family unity, not a reason to create lifelong enemies among siblings. To our Igbo fathers, brothers and traditional leaders, it is time to reflect on practices that leave daughters feeling rejected and undervalued. Tradition should not be used as a weapon to make a daughter feel that she does not belong to the family that gave her life. A fair and transparent approach to inheritance can help prevent unnecessary disputes, court cases and broken relationships between brothers and sisters. Families should also seek proper legal guidance to ensure that inheritance decisions comply with the law. Let us remember that a daughter who is excluded today may be the very person who stands up for the family tomorrow. And a son who inherits everything is not automatically the child who will care the most. A daughter is a daughter for life. Marriage does not erase her roots, change her bloodline or make her a stranger to her father’s legacy. To every Igbo father, let your legacy be remembered not only for the houses, land and wealth you leave behind, but also for the fairness, love and unity you leave among your children. Our daughters deserve dignity, fairness and a place in the family they were born into. Let us build families where inheritance brings peace rather than division. #IgboCulture #IgboLand #DaughtersMatter #EqualInheritance #FamilyUnity

I so much love my dad. my dad married 3 wives, he had 20 male and 9 female. I am one of his youngest daughter. I was so close to my dad. when he was sick, non of my siblings showed up, I was in higher institutions in Enugu. I always visited my dad every weekend to prepare his one week food and stored in his freezer. when he passed I was in abuja for my youth service. After his funeral, his lawyer came with his wills, he gave all his sons lands, ( Anaobi),he gave my sisters a plots of land each... I was shocked when his lawyer said that my dad gave me the best 10 plots of lands in the best position, express way. I was surprised. my siblings nearly kpai me. they took me to court. I cried, I nearly left the lands for them but his lawyer said go and get yourself a lawyer I will be there as a witness. When my dad lawyer came to the court as a witness, he said he was even shocked when my dad visited his office and said to him that anyone who's sees him as a father is whom he sees as his child.said he wants most of his properties to go to one of his younger daughter that cares and loved him. . you could imagine 28 siblings fighting one person. I couldn't believe that my dad keeps making a video of himself every year in renewal of his wills. when the videos was played in the court, The male Jury looked at them and said ,what u people doing here.are u people not ashamed of yourselves. you guys had been waiting for your dad to kpai so that u guys will share his properties. He dismissed the case .they took me to the high court, I won again. My advice to everyone is, Look after your parents, love them. Even if they don't have anything to give you physical, Their prayers and blessings works like magic. I gave two of my siblings who are not against me one plot each. Love ur parents.. my dad stated everything I did for him in his will... Let love lead...
