Then someone's kid at the studio suggested, “What about Keanu Reeves? He's hot.” The filmmakers initially dismissed the idea, thinking of his goofy “Bill & Ted” character. But they remembered his performance in “Parenthood” and agreed to meet him. Reeves showed up on a motorcycle, and his “Point Break” experience helped convince them he could play a cop. Halle Berry was also approached for Annie before Sandra Bullock got the role. Reeves and Bullock helped turn “Speed” into a $350 million worldwide hit. Reeves later turned down the 1997 sequel, leaving Bullock to return without him. But Reeves is open to “Speed 3,” saying he and Bullock would “freakin' knock it out of the park.” Bullock wants to reunite too, though a third movie hasn't been confirmed.
