@moviesheavenupdates: Tom Cruise's latest movie, "Digger," is shaping up to be one of Hollywood's most expensive financial disasters. According to a new Guardian investigation, the film has earned just $37.7 million worldwide after costing an estimated $175 million to produce and another $100 million to market. That's only 28% of the $136.6 million earned by Brad Pitt's "Heart of the Beast," which opened just one week earlier. The movie opened to only $8 million in the US and dropped another 60% during its second weekend. Analysts now expect losses approaching $245 million. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu originally developed the project as a possible Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle before Cruise took over. The studio's troubles have been compounded by Cruise's first-dollar deal, which gives him a share of revenue before the film becomes profitable. Yet Anne Hathaway rated the movie 10/10, calling it “smart and trippy.” Guillermo del Toro defended it too: “Love the arts. F*ck the charts.” If DiCaprio had starred instead, do you think the box office results would've been any different? 😳 #TomCruise #Digger #Hollywood
