Coming home to Lubec after 11 days away, has been so bitterSWEET. Heavy on the sweet. This isn’t because I didn’t absolutely love my time in Florida, because 200% did, and cannot WAIT to go back. The beaches, my sister, and time alone with my husband on the beach really helped my heart start to heal. When we landed in Bangor, the air was SO much more crisp. My grandmother was thinking that when we left Maine on October 6th that the leaves were done changing, and peak foilage had already passed. I knew that wasn’t the case… and I was right 😜… the ride home was GORGEOUS. The colors reminded me of the many reasons why I will always consider Maine my home. Our house on the other hand, was a sight for sore eyes. When I left the sunflowers, Zinnas, and SO many of my annuals were still blooming. By the time we got back, EVERYTHING (actually not everything, the dahlias and some other ones in one Darden were still okay) was dead, bare, and in serious need of cleanup (which I still haven’t gotten to). But none of that mattered… because the whole flock was so happy to see me. The new geese were not only eating out of my hand, but following me all around nibbling on me, and letting me pet them like a pup. The new pup himself was shivering since he’s a warm weather wussy, but he was here there and everywhere with curiosity. The birds were JUST as skeptical of him. We had 4 new baby chicks, and the ducks were quaking away with joy to see us. The lack of flowers was over shadowed by the burgundy, orange, and yellow leaves on the trees and all over my yard. The point I’m trying to make is, that home is where the heart is… and my heart is here… in Maine. Full with the colors of fall, on my little slice of heaven. Florida is gorgeous, and it’s where my closest family is, but what it’s missing is what I love most about my home. The 4 seasons, and the change that comes along with them. Someday maybe my heart will pull me towards palm trees and warmer weather. Till then, I’m thankful I have family there to visit, so that I can come back to my happy place and be reminded of why it’s just that. #homesweethome #maine #fall #puppy #funnyfarm
