@anna_bannana2024: South Florida Space Jellyfish Alert ! This one is heading Southeast Tomorrow morning’s SpaceX Falcon 9 Bandwagon-5 rideshare launch from Cape Canaveral’s SLC-40 (window opens 6:30 a.m. ET, sunrise until 7:25 a.m.) has a good chance of producing a Space Jellyfish if it lifts off early in the window. The effect happens when the rocket’s expanding high-altitude exhaust (mostly water vapor and CO₂ that freezes into ice crystals) is lit by the sun while observers on the ground are still in darkness or deep twilight, creating a glowing, tentacled plume. A liftoff near the 6:30 a.m. open—similar to the striking CRS-35 jellyfish on October 13—keeps that contrast strong. If the launch slips later in the hour-long window, especially after sunrise, the brightening sky washes out the illumination, making the plume far less vivid or invisible against the daylight. #launch #spacejellyfish #spacexlaunch #skywatchers #southeast
