the subject of the doc is the audience. he has contempt for the gossipy anti-art that is “biopic / documentary” dominating our screens. i loved it, but probably not for the reasons so many are flocking to this film. the fact that he somehow gets to script the 2 theses of the film 1) god is love 2) reenactments are kind of evil and put them in the mouth of a subject who we conveniently cannot hear from directly for these moments is beautiful.
