We woke up today to absolutely heartbreaking news in our CASK gene disorder community. One of Alice's CASK sisters, sweet Saylor who is 7 years old, was shot in the face and critically injured at her elementary school in Bend, Oregon. Like Alice, she is in a wheelchair and nonspeaking. Our CASK community is very small - less than 600 kids around the world diagnosed so far with ultra rare CASK gene disorder. We know Saylor and her mom Danielle. I remember how hard it was for her mom to let her precious girl go to preschool and how fearful she was. No parent should ever face what Saylor's parents are dealing with now. Schools are one of the places where children should be safe. Saylor was already a little but mighty fighter having to face everyday battles to do things others take for granted, like walking, talking, using her hands and even swallowing. And today she has to fight for her life. Our hearts go out to precious Saylor, her brother and her entire family. Please support the family by keeping them in your prayers and sending healing vibes. Please consider donating if you can. When many people come together, we can achieve great things and make the impossible possible. Thank you so much! Project CASK shared: Saylor, you are loved. We are with you. Keep fighting, sweet girl. A GoFundMe has been created to support Saylor and her family, and CASK parents have organized a community prayer this Sunday at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.
