The fur industry is one of the most horrendous in the world. 85 percent of fur comes from fur factory farms, where dozens of female animals are forcebly impragnated to bear children. These animals, minks, foxes, weasels, raccoon dogs, rabbits, cats, dogs and more live their lifes in small, severely crowded, filthy wire cages, where they are prevented from expressing their basic natural behaviour. Numerous scientific reports have indicated that severe health problems are inherent to fur production and that animals on all fur farms have been found to exhibit physical and behavioral abnormalities as: ‘…infected wounds, missing limbs from biting incidents, eye infections, bent feet, mouth deformities, self-mutilation, cannibalism of dead siblings or offspring and other stress-related stereotypical behaviour.’ Stereotypical behavior, as a result of stress, occurs on all fur farms and is expressed as pacing along the cage wall, repetitive circling or nodding of the head. To not damage the fur animals are killed by agonzing methods, such as gassing, electrocution through the mouth, anus, genitals or beating or kicking to death. Oftentimes, the methodes don’t fully work, so it is commen that the animals are skinned alive while fully conscious, and even found breathing several minutes after the skin was cut from their body, as undercover footage proves. 15 percent of animals used for fur, are killed trough painfull hunting methodes. The steel-jaw trap, which the American Veterinary Medical Association calls inhumane, is the most widely used trap. It’s been banned by the European Union and a growing number of U.S. states. Fur harms the environment. A 2023 study from Humane Society International discovered the followed. „From high emissions to water pollution, fur is the opposite of eco-friendly. The findings in the report reveal that fur’s environmental impact is far greater than that of other materials. The study shows that across multiple environmental indicators, including greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and pollution, fur consistently ranks as the most damaging textile material compared to common alternatives, debunking any claims of sustainability and eco-friendliness.“ (Quote from the artikel: https://faunalytics.org/the-true-cost-of-fur-a-hidden-environmental-threat/), (Study: https://www.hsi.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/HSI_UK-Furs-Dirty-Footprint_Jun23.pdf ).
