My best friend—who my family and I basically consider a sister at this point—couldn't make it to my 18th birthday (Debut). It was a huge deal in my culture, so I was definitely disappointed when she couldn't come due to evening classes that she couldn't skip or be excused from. But I never hated her for it, nor did I ever see her as any less of a friend. Real friendship means understanding that life happens.
