he did return in the first century. the face of the son of man was seen over the destruction of the temple in 70 ad. chariots were seen in the clouds it was recorded by Josephus and tacitus. just as people were mistaken and didn't understand that John the Baptist was elijah, people didn't understand that Christ return was a spiritual and coming in the clouds which represented destruction which happened when Jerusalem was destroyed.

My mom used these verses to tell me that Jesus was coming back soon. Could be any day now. It would definitely be in my lifetime. It really bothers me how a lot of Christians use it as an excuse to not care for the environment whatsoever. “Jesus will come back soon and destroy all this anyway.”
