@intels5: An MIT-affiliated study of families in Denmark and Florida found that second-born boys were 20–40% more likely than firstborn boys to face school discipline or enter the criminal justice system. Researchers compared siblings within the same families and found similar patterns across the two locations. Differences in health at birth and school quality did not explain the gap. One possible explanation was parental time: firstborn children receive undivided attention before a sibling arrives and may benefit again when parents stay home after the second birth.
