Hiking to the top of Multnomah Falls—past Benson Bridge and up the 11 steep switchbacks, with views of the Columbia River Gorge opening up along the climb. The trail covers about 2.4 miles round trip and gains roughly 800 feet. At the top, the overlook sits beside the creek just before it plunges 542 feet over the upper falls. Looking down toward the lodge below gives you a completely different perspective on the waterfall. That lodge has welcomed visitors since 1925, when it was built to serve travelers exploring the Historic Columbia River Highway.
