@jonases_20: In January 2024, a post went viral. It claimed that after Bill Gates became friends with Warren Buffett, he started selling his Microsoft shares to spread his money across different investments. At the time, his fortune was $138 billion. The post said that if he had kept every share, he could be worth $1.33 trillion today. It ended with a warning: Be careful about spreading your money across different investments, especially when friends tell you to do it. More than 6 million people saw the post. But Nassim Taleb (Lebanese-American New York University professor) disagreed. He explained that spreading your money across different investments is not about making more money. It is about protecting yourself from losing everything if things go wrong. What if Microsoft had gone out of business? And how many business owners lost everything because they put all their money into one place? Here are the facts. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett met on July 5, 1991. They talked for 10 hours. After that meeting, Buffett bought 100 Microsoft shares so he could follow the company more closely. When Microsoft first sold shares to the public in 1986, Gates owned 49% of the company. By 2000, his share had dropped to about 14%. Today, he owns less than 1%. Forbes estimated that his remaining Microsoft shares were worth about $28 billion in 2025. Forbes also estimated that if Gates had never sold any shares or given away any money, he could be worth about $1.2 trillion. Today, Forbes puts his fortune at $114.9 billion, even after giving away tens of billions of dollars. He has promised to give away almost all his money by 2045. Buffett once said he was comfortable missing out on the money he could have made from Microsoft shares. That kind of investment simply wasn't his game.

It's not his real money....it's everybody's money pooled together. If he sold it all, they would stop him and he would be sued.
