• #ATSUSHISAKURAI . 07/03/1966 - 19/10.2023 • I’d like to start by explaining the meaning I’ve imbued this edit with. While the song’s original intent has nothing to do with this day, I found certain lines in it that felt so fitting for this occasion I simply had to choose this track. I decided to give it a meaning of my own. As for the edit itself, I began with footage from a BUCK-TICK concert held on December 29, 2023 – the first show following Sakurai-san’s passing. These opening shots illustrate our current reality: he is no longer with us. The center of the stage the spot where Sakurai-san always stood now lies empty, marked only by spotlights focused precisely on that space, where a microphone stand still remains. Following this are clips from a concert on July 23, 2023. I chose this particular performance because it was the last summer Sakurai-san spent on stage the final summer of his life. Through this edit and this song, I wanted to reflect on the fleeting nature of time and look back at those summer days when everything still seemed fine. I think what makes this edit unique is its vivid color palette; yet, even these bright hues cannot diminish the profound sadness and grief we carry in our hearts today. Now, I’d like to say a few words about Sakurai-san himself. For the past three years, he has been constantly on my mind I’ve often wondered what his journey has been like in the afterlife. I believe in the existence of the soul, and because of that, I trust that a part of him is still alive. No one knows what it’s like for him in heaven now, but… I want to ask God to take the best possible care of his soul. He was a man who made an immense contribution to this world, to society… Whenever things were difficult for me, when I was on the verge of losing my mind under the weight of this life I would recall Acchan’s words, his perspective on existence. He never claimed that life was perfect, joyful, or anything of the sort; he spoke of its darkest aspects, he told the truth about it, a truth that wasn’t always beautiful, but does that mean one should stop living? No matter what life is like, or how much darkness you may experience within your own, you must keep on living. In his songs, Sakurai-san often touched upon the bleakest facets of existence sometimes to the point where you feel a sense of dread, realizing the horrors he must have grappled with in his own mind, yet he also spoke of the need to accept life as it is, with all its flaws. Just look at the song

Just look at the song "Rhapsody," or the profound darkness contained within "Yuuwaku"… Sakurai-san never cultivated the image of an unreachable, distant artist; rather, he showed us that he was a human being, just like the rest of us perhaps that is why he drew so many fans to him. I feel such deep pain at the loss of such a wonderful person – someone truly rare, but now, all I can do is thank God that he lived at all, and that he was able to share his feelings with millions of people, making their lives better in the process. I also want to express my gratitude to the other members of BUCK-TICK for supporting him and his worldview – for so many decades, and for helping him to fully express himself. I am grateful to them for not giving up after his passing and for continuing to create – even if the music no longer carries that signature gothic aesthetic that Sakurai-san used to share with us… I am grateful to everyone who played a part in the development and creation of this band. And now, a word to you, dear readers… please feel free to share your feelings in the comments or by sending me a private message! I would be happy to talk with anyone about this significant, albeit deeply sorrowful, day. Share your emotions, your feelings – your pain and your joy! Don’t keep anything bottled up; allow yourself to express what you’re feeling, and set those emotions free. With immense love for BUCK-TICK and all their fans. #bucktick #バクチク #櫻井敦司 #vkei
