Doesn't the person with the license have to stay sober?

you need a license to serve alcohol at a privat event? 😅 like.. they are not selling it and the event isn't open to the public.

What’s going to end up happening is they bride “has her license” and someone else is going to end up doing the bar the entire night cause they are going to say well the bride has it and this person was just watching the bar for me for a second (ya know the whole night) while she stepped away.

You have to have a license regardless. Even at a private home, a day of liquor license through ABC is technically required. At a venue there’s a lot more required : bartender certification, liquor license and a large insurance coverage

I went to my favourite restaurant and asked who their best bartender was. I then offered to pay him for my sister's Stag and Doe. We paid him in cash, plus he got almost double in tips.

My friend got married and my brother who has his license was the bartender. He worked for tips that night and the bride and groom encouraged guests to tip the bartender for each drink because it was a toonie bar ($2/drink). He came home with $600

In alberta, canada anyone over the age of 18 can obtain something called proserve. it's $25 and an online course through aglc. they can then serve liquor legally. as me the bride, I had to provide a license for us to serve liquor. $10 through aglc and then the venue required me to have event insurance which was $245. my bartender was my brother's wife's sister in law. I know a mouthfull. but it was someone I knew and could trust. she ended up not cashing the cheque I wrote her. 🥲 but our bar ran very smoothly. I don't know how it is other places but point being, it's not hard to do things legally and stress free.

way too many opportunities for something to go wrong definitely not a good idea to run the bar yourself best off hiring someone to keep everything fair and legal cuz God forbid someone gets over served and ends up having an accident the person who was supposed to be in charge of the bar would be in huge trouble

I would bet $$ the Bride wouldn't spent any significant amount of time behind that bar!!
