Consider again the old apartment building. Its tired hallways. Its vanished neighbor. And the curious brass box in the lobby marked simply: COMPLAINTS. Our tenant has already discovered that management takes its responsibilities rather seriously. A noisy neighbor, removed from consideration. A barking dog, another inconvenience quietly resolved. But there are always more complaints to be made. And tonight, our tenant turns his attention to an irritation familiar to anyone who has ever lived above the ground floor. An elevator. Slow, unreliable, and apparently indifferent to the demands of modern life. A perfectly ordinary grievance. One that might ordinarily require a mechanic, a maintenance request, or perhaps a little patience. But patience is a virtue this particular management company seems determined to make unnecessary. And our tenant is about to discover that there are certain conveniences which, once requested, may come at a rather extraordinary cost.
